Product Summary
Whether you're replacing, remodeling or building, now you can bring Andersen® beauty, craftsmanship and time-tested performance into a home for less than you may expect. Andersen® 100 Series windows are made with a patented, revolutionarly Fibrex® composite material, which allows Andersen® to offer an uncommon value others can't. It's environmentally responsible and energy efficient, and it comes in durable, deep, rich colors you can't get with vinyl.
Glass Options
The Andersen 100 Series offers a selection of glass options designed to enhance energy efficiency, comfort, and performance. These options are crafted to meet various needs, from reducing heat transfer to providing privacy and a specific aesthetic.
Low-E Glass Options: The primary glass offering for the 100 Series is Low-E glass, which helps to reduce the amount of ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) light that passes through the window. This translates to several benefits:
- Low-E4® Glass: This is the standard Low-E glass for the 100 Series. It is engineered to reflect a significant portion of the sun's heat, which can help keep your home cooler in the summer and reduce heating costs in the winter. It also helps to block harmful UV rays that can fade furniture, carpets, and artwork over time.
- Low-E4® Sun Glass: For areas with intense sunlight or for homeowners seeking maximum solar heat gain reduction, Low-E4 Sun Glass is available. This option provides even greater solar control, further reducing heat transfer from the sun.
Tempered Glass: In applications where safety is a concern, such as near doors, floors, or in bathrooms, tempered glass is an option. Tempered glass is a type of safety glass that is heat-treated or chemically treated to increase its strength. If broken, it shatters into small, relatively harmless pieces, unlike standard glass which breaks into sharp shards.
Obscure Glass: For areas where privacy is desired, such as bathrooms or bedrooms, obscure glass is available. This type of glass diffuses light and provides a translucent effect, obscuring the view from the outside while still allowing natural light to enter.
Glass Thickness: The 100 Series typically utilizes double-pane construction with a sealed air or gas space between the panes. The thickness of the glass and the width of the space are optimized for thermal performance, with specific configurations designed to meet ENERGY STAR® requirements in various regions. The exact specifications for glass thickness and spacer width will vary depending on the chosen Low-E option and the climate zone.
Gas Fills: While not always explicitly detailed as a separate "option" for the 100 Series, Andersen utilizes inert gas fills like Argon between the glass panes in their energy-efficient configurations. Argon is denser than air and has lower thermal conductivity, which further enhances the insulating properties of the window, reducing heat transfer.
It is recommended to consult the specific product details or an Andersen representative for the most precise information regarding glass options and their performance characteristics for your particular needs and region.

Product Summary
MI is your single source for a wide range of remodeling and new construction windows.
Awning, basement, bay & bow, casement, double hung, single hung, sliding windows are available.
Construction and Materials
MI Windows and Doors offers a comprehensive range of window and skylight products, including Awning, Casement, Double Hung, Single Hung, Sliding Horizontal, Basement, Bay & Bow windows. While specific construction details and material compositions can vary across their diverse product lines, the company generally emphasizes durable materials and thoughtful design to provide reliable and energy-efficient solutions for residential and commercial applications.
To provide a more detailed understanding of the construction and materials, it's beneficial to explore the common elements found in high-quality windows that MI Windows and Doors likely incorporates:
- Frame Materials:
- Vinyl: This is a prevalent material in the window industry due to its durability, low maintenance, and excellent insulating properties. Vinyl frames are resistant to rot, corrosion, and warping, making them a long-lasting choice.
- Wood: For a more traditional aesthetic, some window lines may offer wood frames. These provide a warm, natural look and can be painted or stained to match interior decor. Wood frames typically require more maintenance than vinyl.
- Aluminum: While less common in residential applications for primary window frames due to its thermal conductivity, aluminum may be used in certain specialized windows or as a reinforcement material.
- Sash Construction:
- The sash, which holds the glass, is typically constructed from the same material as the frame (e.g., vinyl or wood) to ensure structural integrity and thermal continuity.
- Glazing Options:
- Insulated Glass Units (IGUs): Most modern windows feature double-pane or triple-pane glass, creating insulating air or gas-filled (e.g., argon, krypton) spaces between the panes. This significantly reduces heat transfer, improving energy efficiency.
- Low-E Coatings: A microscopically thin, transparent coating applied to the glass surface. Low-E coatings reflect infrared heat while allowing visible light to pass through, further enhancing thermal performance by keeping heat inside during winter and outside during summer.
- Tempered Glass: Used in areas where safety is a concern (e.g., near doors, in basements), tempered glass is designed to break into small, relatively harmless pieces when shattered.
- Laminated Glass: Offers enhanced security and sound reduction by bonding a layer of plastic between two panes of glass.
- Hardware:
- Operating mechanisms such as locks, handles, hinges, and balances are typically constructed from durable metals like aluminum alloys or steel, often with corrosion-resistant finishes. The specific hardware will vary depending on the window type (e.g., crank operators for casement windows, tilt latches for double-hung windows).
- Sealing and Weatherstripping:
- High-quality weatherstripping, usually made from synthetic rubber or foam, is applied around the operable sash to create a tight seal, preventing drafts and water infiltration.
- Sealants are used to ensure a weather-tight fit between the glass and the sash, and between the frame and the building structure.

Their commitment to quality construction ensures durability and energy efficiency across all their window types, including Awning, Casement, Double Hung, Single Hung, Sliding Horizontal, Basement, Bay & Bow windows.
The primary frame materials available from MI Windows and Doors are vinyl and aluminum. Each offers distinct advantages, allowing homeowners and builders to select the best fit for their project requirements.
-
Vinyl Frames:
Vinyl is a popular choice due to its excellent thermal performance, low maintenance requirements, and cost-effectiveness. MI Windows and Doors' vinyl frames are engineered for strength and longevity, resisting rot, corrosion, and insect damage. They are an ideal option for homeowners seeking a balance of energy efficiency and ease of care. The inherent insulating properties of vinyl contribute to reduced heat transfer, helping to lower energy bills and enhance indoor comfort. Furthermore, vinyl frames do not require painting and are easy to clean, making them a practical choice for busy households.
-
Aluminum Frames:
Aluminum frames are known for their strength, durability, and sleek design possibilities. While historically aluminum was less energy efficient, modern advancements in thermal break technology have significantly improved their insulating capabilities. MI Windows and Doors' aluminum frames are often specified for projects where strength and slender profiles are paramount, such as in commercial applications or for windows with large expanses of glass. They offer superior resistance to warping and are well-suited for a wide range of climates. Aluminum frames can be finished in a variety of colors to match exterior aesthetics.
Beyond the core material, MI Windows and Doors provides various frame enhancements and features to further customize window performance and appearance:
-
Color Options:
Both vinyl and aluminum frames are available in a curated selection of colors to seamlessly integrate with your home's exterior and interior design. Specific color availability may vary by product line.
-
Fusion-Welded Corners (Vinyl):
For their vinyl windows, MI Windows and Doors often utilizes fusion-welded corners. This construction technique creates a strong, airtight seal that enhances structural integrity and prevents drafts, contributing to improved energy efficiency and comfort.
-
Reinforcement (Aluminum):
Aluminum frames may incorporate internal reinforcement to provide additional strength, particularly in larger window sizes or specific structural applications. This ensures the longevity and performance of the window unit.

Aluminum frames can be offered with different finishes, such as anodized or powder-coated, providing enhanced durability, resistance to weathering, and a wider range of aesthetic choices.
The specific frame configurations and available options will vary depending on the type of window selected (e.g., Awning, Casement, Double Hung, etc.). It is recommended to consult the specific product details for each window style to confirm the precise frame materials and features available.
Glass Options
MI Windows and Doors offers a variety of glass options designed to enhance performance, comfort, and aesthetics for their range of windows, including Awning, Casement, Double Hung, Single Hung, Sliding Horizontal, Basement, Bay & Bow windows.
Standard Glass Features
- Dual-Pane Insulated Glass: All MI Windows and Doors products come standard with dual-pane insulated glass. This construction features two panes of glass separated by a spacer, creating a sealed unit filled with air or an inert gas. This design significantly improves thermal performance by reducing heat transfer, leading to greater energy efficiency and lower utility bills.
Performance Glass Packages
MI Windows and Doors provides several advanced glass packages to meet specific climate and performance needs:
- Low-E Glass (Low Emissivity): Available in various formulations, Low-E glass is a microscopic metallic coating applied to the glass surface. This coating reflects radiant heat, keeping the heat outside during warmer months and inside during cooler months. This further enhances energy efficiency and helps maintain a comfortable interior temperature year-round.
- Argon Gas: This inert gas is often used to fill the space between the dual panes of glass, either as a standard feature or as an upgrade in performance packages. Argon is denser than air and a poorer conductor of heat, further improving the insulating properties of the window and contributing to better energy performance.
- Warm-Edge Spacers: The spacers that separate the glass panes are engineered to be "warm-edge," meaning they have lower thermal conductivity than traditional metal spacers. This helps reduce condensation on the interior surface of the glass, especially in colder climates, and improves the overall U-factor (a measure of heat loss).
Specialty Glass Options
Beyond energy performance, MI Windows and Doors offers specialty glass for added benefits:
- Obscure Glass: This type of glass is designed to obscure vision while still allowing light to pass through. It is ideal for areas where privacy is desired, such as bathrooms or basements.
- Tempered Glass: Tempered glass is a safety glass that is four to five times stronger than standard annealed glass. It is designed to shatter into small, pebble-like pieces when broken, reducing the risk of serious injury. This is often required by building codes in certain applications, such as near doors or in egress windows.
- Laminated Glass: Laminated glass consists of two or more layers of glass bonded together with an interlayer, typically polyvinyl butyral (PVB). This construction enhances security by holding the glass together even when broken, and it also offers sound dampening properties and UV protection.
- Grids and Grilles: While not a glass type itself, MI Windows and Doors offers various grid and grille options that can be placed within the sealed glass unit or applied to the surface. These decorative elements can significantly alter the aesthetic of the window, allowing for customization to match architectural styles. Options typically include different patterns such as colonial, prairie, and grids between the glass.

- Basement Windows: Specifically designed for below-grade applications, basement windows are built to withstand moisture and offer security and natural light to basement spaces.
- Bay & Bow Windows: These are multi-panel window configurations that extend outward from the building's exterior. Bay windows typically consist of three panels, with a large picture window flanked by two smaller venting windows. Bow windows feature a series of four or more identical-sized panels that form a gentle curve. Both styles add architectural interest, expand interior space, and enhance natural light.
Within each of these window categories, MI Windows and Doors provides various options for materials, finishes, and features. These may include different frame materials, glass packages for enhanced energy performance, hardware finishes, and decorative grille options. Frame Options
Ply Gem Windows offers a variety of frame options designed to complement different architectural styles and meet various performance needs. These frame choices are integral to the window's overall aesthetic, durability, and energy efficiency.
When selecting Ply Gem windows, customers can typically choose from several distinct frame materials, each with its own set of advantages:
- Vinyl: This is a popular and versatile option known for its low maintenance, excellent insulation properties, and affordability. Vinyl frames are resistant to rot, corrosion, and peeling, making them a durable choice for a variety of climates. They are also available in a wide range of colors and finishes to match any home exterior.
- Wood: For those seeking a more traditional and warm aesthetic, wood frames offer classic beauty and can be stained or painted to match interior décor. Wood frames provide good insulation but typically require more maintenance than vinyl to protect against moisture and pests.
- Aluminum: Aluminum frames are known for their strength and slim profiles, which can allow for larger glass areas and a more contemporary look. They are also resistant to corrosion and decay. However, aluminum can be a less efficient insulator compared to vinyl or wood, and thermal breaks are often incorporated to improve performance.
- Composite: Composite frames are engineered materials that combine wood fibers with polymers. This blend aims to offer the aesthetic appeal of wood with the low maintenance and durability of vinyl. Composite frames are resistant to warping, rotting, and insect damage.
The specific frame construction can also vary. For instance, some frames might feature multi-chambered designs for enhanced thermal performance and structural integrity. Reinforcements within the frame, such as aluminum or steel, can be incorporated in certain designs to provide additional strength, particularly for larger window units.
Furthermore, frame profiles are designed with both appearance and functionality in mind. Slimmer profiles might be chosen for a modern aesthetic, while more robust profiles can offer a more traditional look and accommodate thicker, more energy-efficient glass packages.
Customers should consider how the chosen frame material and construction will impact:
- Aesthetics: How the frame will look with the home's existing architecture and landscaping.
- Durability and Maintenance: The level of upkeep required and the frame's resistance to environmental factors.
- Energy Efficiency: How well the frame material and its construction contribute to insulating the home and reducing energy costs.
- Cost: The initial investment associated with each frame option.
By offering a range of frame options, Ply Gem Windows aims to provide solutions that meet the diverse needs and preferences of homeowners and builders.
Glass Options
Ply Gem Windows offers a comprehensive range of glass options designed to enhance the performance, aesthetics, and comfort of their diverse window product line. These options cater to various needs, from energy efficiency and UV protection to privacy and decorative appeal.
The core of Ply Gem's glass offerings revolves around their focus on energy efficiency and comfort. Many of their windows come standard with double-pane insulated glass units (IGUs). These units consist of two panes of glass separated by a sealed space filled with air or an inert gas like Argon. This construction significantly reduces heat transfer, keeping homes cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter, leading to potential energy savings.
Low-E Glass Coatings
A key component of Ply Gem's energy-efficient glass is the application of Low-E (low-emissivity) coatings. These microscopically thin, transparent coatings are applied to the glass surface and are designed to reflect infrared light, which is the primary source of heat. Depending on the climate and desired outcome, different types of Low-E coatings are available:
- Low-E 366: This is a highly popular and versatile option. It is designed to block a significant amount of solar heat gain, making it ideal for warmer climates. It also effectively reflects interior heat back into the home during colder months, contributing to year-round energy savings. Low-E 366 also boasts excellent visible light transmittance, allowing ample natural light into the home.
- Other Low-E Options: While Low-E 366 is prominently featured, Ply Gem may offer other Low-E variations tailored for specific performance needs, such as maximizing solar heat gain in cooler climates or optimizing for different levels of solar heat rejection.
Gas Fills
To further enhance the insulating properties of their IGUs, Ply Gem utilizes inert gas fills. These gases, denser than air, are injected into the space between the glass panes. Argon is commonly used due to its excellent insulating qualities and cost-effectiveness. Krypton gas may also be available for applications requiring even higher thermal performance.
Tempered and Laminated Glass
For safety and security, Ply Gem offers tempered and laminated glass options:
- Tempered Glass: Also known as safety glass, tempered glass is heat-treated to increase its strength and make it shatter into small, relatively harmless pieces when broken. This is often required in specific locations, such as near doors, in bathrooms, or at floor level, to meet building codes.
- Laminated Glass: Laminated glass consists of two or more panes of glass bonded together with a layer of plastic interlayer, typically polyvinyl butyral (PVB). This construction makes it highly resistant to breaking and penetration. When broken, the glass fragments adhere to the interlayer, reducing the risk of injury. Laminated glass also offers enhanced sound dampening properties and UV protection.
Decorative and Privacy Glass
Ply Gem also provides decorative and privacy glass options to add aesthetic appeal and functional benefits to windows:
- Textured/Privacy Glass: These options feature patterned or frosted surfaces that obscure the view through the glass while still allowing light to pass. They are commonly used in bathrooms, entryways, and other areas where privacy is desired.
- Grids and Grilles: While not a glass type itself, grids and grilles are decorative elements that can be installed within or on the surface of the glass. Ply Gem offers a variety of styles, including simulated divided lites (SDLs), grilles between the glass (GBG), and applied grilles, to achieve different architectural looks.
The specific glass options available may vary depending on the particular Ply Gem window model and series. It is recommended to consult the product specifications for each window type to determine the exact glass configurations offered.
Options-Styles
Ply Gem Windows offers a diverse range of style options designed to complement any architectural aesthetic. Their product line encompasses various window types, each with its own unique operational and visual characteristics.
For contemporary and traditional homes alike, the **Awning Window** provides excellent ventilation and protection from the elements when open. It hinges at the top and swings outward, allowing for fresh air even during light rain.
The **Casement Window** is a popular choice for its unobstructed views and superior energy efficiency. These windows crank open outward, offering wide ventilation. Their tight seal when closed minimizes air leakage, contributing to a more comfortable and energy-conscious home.
For classic home designs, **Double Hung Windows** are a staple. They feature two operable sashes that slide vertically past each other, allowing for ventilation from both the top and bottom. Both sashes are typically designed to tilt inward for easy cleaning.
The **Single Hung Window** presents a more traditional aesthetic. In this design, only the bottom sash slides upward to open, while the top sash remains stationary. Like double-hung windows, the operable sash often tilts in for convenient maintenance.
**Sliding Horizontal Windows** (also known as gliding windows) offer a sleek and modern look, particularly well-suited for wider openings or spaces where outward or inward projection is not desired. One or both sashes glide horizontally along tracks, providing smooth operation and good ventilation.
The **Garden Window** is a unique and charming option, extending outward from the home to create a mini-greenhouse. This style typically features a glass top that opens for ventilation and provides an ideal spot for growing herbs and plants, while also allowing ample natural light to enter the room.
For expansive views and a contemporary feel, **Window Walls** are available. These large-format window systems can span significant areas, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor living spaces and maximizing natural light and scenic vistas. This option is often comprised of multiple window units joined together to create a unified glass wall.
Across these styles, Ply Gem Windows emphasizes options that contribute to energy efficiency, durability, and aesthetic appeal, catering to a wide spectrum of homeowner needs and preferences.
