Construction and Materials
Louisiana-Pacific SmartSide Siding is a robust and visually appealing exterior cladding system designed for residential and commercial applications. Its construction centers on engineered wood technology, offering enhanced durability and performance compared to traditional wood siding.
The core of SmartSide Siding products is LP's proprietary manufacturing process. This involves selecting high-quality wood strands and fibers, treating them with advanced binders and water-resistant waxes. These components are then precisely oriented and compressed under heat and pressure. This engineered wood core provides superior strength, stability, and resistance to moisture, warping, and decay.
Following the engineered wood core, SmartSide Siding is treated with a proprietary solution containing resins and waxes. This treatment penetrates deep into the wood structure, providing exceptional protection against moisture and fungal decay. This is a critical step in ensuring the long-term integrity and performance of the siding.
A final coating of a specially formulated primer is applied to the entire surface of the siding panels. This primer serves multiple purposes: it enhances adhesion for subsequent paint layers, provides an additional barrier against moisture, and creates a uniform surface for consistent color application. The primed surface is then ready for the final paint, allowing for a wide range of aesthetic choices to suit any architectural style.
The materials used in Louisiana-Pacific SmartSide Siding are chosen for their performance and longevity:
- Engineered Wood Core: High-quality wood strands and fibers are the foundation, providing structural integrity and dimensional stability.
- Proprietary Treatment: Advanced resins and water-resistant waxes are infused into the wood for superior protection against moisture, decay, and insect damage.
- Primer Coating: A high-quality primer is applied to enhance paint adhesion and provide an additional layer of protection.
SmartSide Siding is available in a variety of styles and profiles to mimic the look of traditional wood siding, including:
- Lap Siding: Available in different widths and textures, including smooth and cedar-grain finishes, to replicate the appearance of traditional wood lap siding.
- Shake and Shingle Siding: Offers the authentic look of real wood shakes and shingles, providing a rustic and charming aesthetic.
- Vertical Siding: Features a distinctive board-and-batten or grooved panel look, adding architectural interest and a contemporary feel.
- Soffit and Trim: Complementary products designed to complete the exterior aesthetic, offering coordinated finishes and consistent performance.
The construction process ensures that each panel is uniform in thickness and density, eliminating the inconsistencies often found in natural wood. This engineered approach contributes to easier installation and a more predictable finished appearance.
